Technical details Engineered wood flooring
UsageEngineered Wood Flooring Increasingly popular across a wide range of applications, including construction and interior decoration. Engineered wood is a material produced by combining real wood with other special properties. Generally, it has advantages over natural wood in terms of strength and durability against various environmental factors.
The following are the technical specifications of engineered wood:
What does engineered wood consist of?
Engineered wood flooringWill have main components 3 layers, including
Real wood surface layer Way Arrow Wood Various types of wood have been imported for processing into engineered wood, including Oak Wood Ash Beech wood Maple wood and many other types of wood
Middle grade wood Acts as a shock absorber and prevents warping of the wood floor
Bottom layer wood which is attached to the back of the wood floor as the final layer to create balance and strength for engineered wood.

Wood selection and grading
Each type of wood has a different grade, depending on the quality of the wood. Generally, wood has 4 levels of grades, namely
- Grade BC : Lowest grade. The wood will have many defects, such as large knots, much sapwood, cracks, planing marks, etc. This grade of wood is often used in construction, such as house frames, columns, beams, etc.
- Grade AB : Medium grade. Wood will have fewer defects than BC grade, but still have some defects, such as medium-sized knots, sapwood not exceeding 30%, cracks, planing marks, etc. This grade of wood is often used for furniture such as tables, chairs, cabinets, etc.
- Grade A : High grade. The wood will have very few defects, such as small knots, sapwood not exceeding 15%. This grade of wood is often used in decorative applications such as doors, windows, furniture, etc.
- Grade A max : Highest grade. Wood will have the fewest defects, such as knots not exceeding 5 mm, sapwood not exceeding 5%. This grade of wood is often used for special aesthetic applications such as carving, antique furniture, etc.
Selecting wood by color
In addition to grading by quality, wood can also be graded by color. Each type of wood has a different color. For example: teakWill be dark brown Wood Ash Maple wood Will be white, etc.
Selecting wood based on sapwood
Sapwood is the innermost part of the wood. It is softer and more brittle than the heartwood. Therefore, wood with a lot of sapwood is less strong than wood without sapwood. Generally, wood with no more than 5% sapwood is considered good quality.

Good characteristics of wood
1. Knots
Wood knots are the scarred parts of wood caused by the growth of branches. The size of the knot, whether it is cracked or not, the pattern of the knot, and its location on the wood all affect the beauty of the wood. Generally, wood with large, scattered knots gives a raw feel, suitable for loft or rustic style home decoration. Wood with small, orderly knots gives a sleek feel, suitable for modern style home decoration.
2. Sapwood
Sapwood is the yellow or white part of the wood adjacent to the bark, which transports water and nutrients throughout the trunk. Sapwood has small or large growth rings, depending on the type of wood. Generally, wood with small growth rings feels dense and strong, while wood with large growth rings feels gentle and warm.
3. Wood fumigation
Wood smoking is the process of subjecting wood to heat and steam to uniformly adjust its color. The principle of smoking is to lighten the color of the heartwood and sapwood. Generally, smoked wood has a grayish-brown color with a slight sheen, suitable for decorating homes in vintage or classic styles.
Wood selection guide
If you want to choose wood with small, neatly arranged knots, you should choose grade A or grade B. If you want to choose wood with large, scattered knots, you should choose grade ABC or lower. And if you want to choose wood for smoking, you should choose grade A or grade B.
Measuring wood moisture
Wood moisture is a critical factor affecting wood properties. Wood that is too wet or too dry will cause various problems such as warping, cracking, deformation, and may shorten the lifespan of the wood.
Appropriate wood moisture content
The appropriate moisture content for wood for general use is around 10-12%. This moisture level makes the wood dense, strong, and resistant to impact. However, the appropriate moisture content for wood may vary depending on the type of wood and its application. For example, wood used for construction should have a moisture content of about 12-15%, while wood used for furniture should have a moisture content of about 8-10%.
Wood moisture management
Wood moisture can change depending on the environment, such as temperature and relative humidity of the air. If the wood is in an environment with too much moisture, the wood will absorb too much moisture, which may cause warping, cracking, or deformation. Conversely, if the wood is in an environment with too little moisture, the wood will lose too much moisture, which may cause the wood to become brittle and break easily.
